California College District Saves Over $2.2M with RedBird LED Retrofit in First Major Proposition 39 Funded Project

The Board of Directors of Rancho Santiago Community College District unanimously approved the use of Redbird LED for their interior LED lighting retrofit project paid for with Prop 39 funding.

The conversion to LED lighting will save the district over $2,200,000 during the ten-year product lifetime. In addition, Southern California Edison (SCE) is providing the district over $300,000 in rebates for this project.

11,200 Stripit Kit®s and Cardinal Tube lights were installed in the 700,000 square feet of classrooms, offices, gyms, and common areas. The RedBird retrofits cut power consumption by 75%, and delivered 20% higher light levels with a more, balanced spectrum of light. Virtually every fluorescent tube on the campus was upgraded with the Redbird products.

"I've worked on many projects for RSCCD and this one delivered one of the fastest paybacks yet," said Scott Connors of Facilities Planning & Program Services, "I personally tested many products from different top LED light manufacturers, and none of them came close to meeting Redbird's quality, light output, efficiency and 10-year warranty."

"Being selected for the first major Prop 39 funded lighting retrofit project in California speaks to the unique advantages of RedBird LED's products", says Jonathan Eppstein, President of Redbird LED. "This is a high visibility project giving real world validation of our Stripit Kit®s high quality and efficacy which makes them the best LED retrofit solution for most fluorescent fixtures. Our products have consistently had the highest efficacy of all LED systems on the DesignLights Consortium's Qualified Product List. This ensures that our customers get the best Return-On-Investment and qualify for the largest cash rebates based on energy saved, while deploying a truly state-of-the-art lighting system."
